Ceasers, Bellagios, Ballys, Alladdin and Luxor, to name a few have shops. Then there's shopping at Fashion show mall right next to Treasure Island Hotel (across from the Wynn Hotel), or you can drive or take a taxi or the bus south of the Strip (just past the airport) to the outlet mall. For more shopping, drive south on I-15 to Primm, NV (at the Calif border ... about 45 miles) and there is a big outlet mall and some casinos.
There's also a shopping mall that locals use on Maryland Parkway, about a mile East of the strip.

You don't want to rent a car. The only reason to rent a car is if you wanted to go to someplace like Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon. If you just plan to stay around the strip area, don't bother with a car. Most of the strip is walkable. It can be a bit of a hike to go one end to the other. There is a monorail that runs up and down the strip that costs a couple $ per ride/person (I think $5?). There is a free monorail that runs from the Excalibur to Mandalay Bay. Excalibur is across the road from MGM, you can catch the monorail at the MGM. Taxi's are the predominate vehicles on the road, you can get almost anywhere in Las Vegas on a $10 taxi ride. The problem with taxi's is the lines at the taxi stands can be long, you can likely walk where you want to go in the time it takes to actually get a taxi. City buses are an option too. Another tip, don't buy show tickets in advance unless there is a show you absolutely must see while your there. You can purchase discounted show tickets from various ticket booths on the strip, for much less than you can see online. The busy time on the strip is Friday and Saturday nights, the rest of week it's much easier to get a cab etc.. Lot's of people come in just for the weekend.

There is alot of shopping on the Strip where the other posters have mentioned but I found them all to be very expensive! Next time I go, I am going by way of the Outlet malls. I heard guys (yes, men) talking about the great deals at the outlet malls and how the Strip prices were unreal. I went to Desert Passage (Aladdin), Venetian shops and Forum Shops (Caesars). It is all about what you want to spend.

Fashion Show Mall, Desert Passage (Aladdin), and the Forum Shops (Caesars) have the widest selection, I suppose.
But this is America.
Its the same boring chain stores everywhere you go (Bebe, French Connection, Versace, Gucci, Abercrombie, GAP)... from L.A. to New York, and all points in between. If you're looking for something different in Vegas, you'll be sorely dissapointed.
