10:59 AM - Are FILIPINOS Asians or Pacific Islanders?

Some people have wondered whether FILIPINOS are considered Asians or Pacific Islanders. Getting curious myself, I ended up searching for the answer online and wound up finding a U.S. CENSUS BUREAU page ( http://www.census.gov/prod/2003pubs/p20-540.pdf ). According to their report:

"Asian" refers to those having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. "Pacific Islander" refers to those having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa...

Is this correct or do you know something more to tell ?

Purely asian. Our history revolve in asia, our heritage are asian, our ancestors were from Asia.

The Aetas arrived in the Philippines more than 30,000 BCE through land bridges, possibly from China and Polynesia.

The Austronesians from Taiwan settled northern Luzon around 2500 BCE. They spread to the rest of the Philippines and later colonized most of Maritime Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific Islands.

Excavations in archeological sites have proven that during prehistoric times, the native Negritos came in contact with Malays and Indonesians who left their ancestral home in Southeast Asia by crossing the seas in their sailboats (balangay), and settled the Philippine archipelago.

And I know this coz I'm a Filipino.

Unless their origins are from China or some sort of Asian culture then you can say they're Asian. Most Filipino's do NOT look Asian. Hell, most half Asian people mixed with Caucasian or African look more noticeable Asian than most Filipino's. To be honest most Filipinos are too western washed and inherited that retard thinking that light skin is beautiful dark skin is low class or poor; even with the more hard evidence that Filipino's are pacific islanders. Most wouldn't want to call themselves Pacific Islanders because they don't want to be associated as "lower class". You know it's the damn truth. Watch a Filipino channel it is extremely rare they will have a dark skin celebrity that is Filipino. Most Filipino's are closet racist. Well most Asian's that aren't open minded are closet racist. It's sad but true.

Filipinos come from the Malay Race. So they're more Asian than Pacific Islander. But you can make a case for both. Just say you're an Asian Pacific Islander because technically, it's right.

Filipinos are Pacific Islanders. Unlike Asians all Pacific Islanders did not have a written language like the alphabet. In the Asian culture they did. Therefore the Philippines are Pacific Islanders, and was also known as the Philippines of the Pacific long ago!

Id say Asian. Compare Manny Pacquiao to Rikishi from WWE. Major differences between your average Filipino and Polynesian such as size, and looks. The women definitely aren't similar. Filipino women are always small while the poly women tend to be taller and bigger than Filipino men. Nothing wrong with being either Asian or "Pacific Islander".

Most Filipinos consider themselves Asians... and by most I mean the one who are actually from and living in the Philippines. Some who do considering being Pacific Islanders are mostly Fil-Ams.

Filipinos are Asians because Philippines belong to the South East Asian Region. Filipinos are not Pacific Islands because even tough Philippines is in the border of the Pacific Ocean and it is an archipelago surrounded by waters, its is still considered an Asian Country because most of its culture come from Asian influences and I think none from Pacific Cultures.

Note: "USA" Census. Opinions from other parts of the world differ.

In Britain my personal notion of Pacific Islanders is of people from the smaller islands such as Fiji and Hawaii etc. By that token I assume I would think of Filipinos as "Asians", but, at my advanced age of 70, I confess I had not really thought about it much.
