Perfume is alcohol-based with scents/oils/etc. from various plants, herbs, spices, etc.

Alcohol evaporates. Heat and sun also change/alter the scent of the cologne or perfume (and sometimes the colour as well).

The refrigerator is a dark, cool place, so the alcohol does not evaporate and the oils/scents of the cologne are not affected by heat and sun.

You might want to put it into a mini fridge all by itself. Or place it in a Ziploc or Hefty zipper bag to avoid the scent from getting into your other foods.

Its shelf life is about 1-2 years. After that, trash it. The chemicals have broken down. I store my perfumes in an extra cupboard in my bedroom, towards the back where it's darker.

Just keep it in a dark dry area like a closet or cabinet the expansive one's last longer
