I worked until midnight tonight and I have to be back at work for 7am-11am and then 4pm-8pm. I normally do split shifts on the weekends so that doesn't bother me. Is it illegal that my employer isn't giving me much time between my shift tonight and in the morning?

I work in a hotel at the front desk and on the weekends in the private lounge setting up breakfast and o'dourves in the evening.

Get a medical letter from a local physician explaining why you cannot work long hours. This way, your boss will not be in a position to fire you. Instead, you can sue his company if he does.

Generally, there is an 8 hour spread between the time a shift ends and the start of the next scheduled shift. The 8 hour rule is not a legal standard in most States.

Check with your State's Department of Labor for clarification.

Unfortunately no. If you really look into labor laws, we are so unprotected you would not believe. They can basically do anything they want and fire you for any reason they want.

The only rights a worker really has is against sexual harrassment and not getting paid overtime for any hours over 40. Beyond that, we have NO LAWS protecting us. We do all the work and the companies get all the protection from laws.

Only 14 states even have laws that they are required to give break times and lunch times. The rest of the states are not even required to do that.

Here in Australia, you may have a case, but it depends what country you live in. Even here, they have relaxed many of the laws, allowing the employer more power over the employees. If you are in a union, try to have a with them and see what they say.
