Book reports should always be written in present tense because you are writing about something that for the reader of the book will be in their present as they personally read the book.

Most are written in past tense as it has already happened but some books can be written in present tense too.

Book reports should be written in the pluperfect (past) tense since the events have already taken place. Write your personal critique in the third person.
