I don't mean face cover but head cover. I am a bit concerned about what happened in England a few weeks ago and I think it is still in dispute. Some agree with the 'banning' policy and some other complain.

I find it disturbing to socialize with anyone who hides his or her face, but not with people who hide their head.

In the case of a Muslim teacher, the headcover would not be distracting, but the fact that she is a Muslim who may or may not support terrorism would be distracting. Being faced with that uncertainty is distractiing.

People who choose to hide their faces should expect others to treat them with suspicion. Look at those who typically hide their faces: bank robbers, terrorists, rapists.... Why wouldn't we suspect a person who's hidiing his or her face?

It is wrong to ban it because for those women who believe they must cover their hair according to their religion it means they are banned from their profession and it is discrimination to ban someone from her profession just because of her religion. It is widely accepted in Islam that women should cover their hair, it is not an extremist position. So the hijab (scarf) can't be compared to another religious symbol like the crucifix, because no Christian believes that they break a rule of their religion if they don't wear a crucifix.
I am not a Muslim, but I have a Muslim friend who wears hijab and I know how important it is for her.
I once heard a Muslim woman who was a teacher and stopped to work because she was not allowed with hijab (in Germany) speak and I thought that she probably was a very good teacher because she spoke about how she took care that the kids are fair to each other and no one is excluded and I had lots of problems in this regard when I went to school and would have loved to have a teacher like her and thought it is really sad that they prohibed her to teach, and again, if they prohibe them to teach with hijab it means they prohibe them to teach at all, they can't simply take it off, it is like telling them you must start to eat porc or stop teaching.

It wouldnt be distracting if you explained and had a clear off set mind that you just want to teach and not terrorise or dicriminate or whatever...
But it would be to some if you made enemies already and your students are young racist themselves.
i think you should go on with teaching. Who knows? If blacks and Whites can start living together, maybe hooded people can too. We gotta start telling the kids that you have to accept people's difference, its the lesson of the real world.
p/s people will still be prejudice towards you if they want to, here's your chance to learn how to deal with it. Oh, and being a teacher slready needs guts!

there was a dispute in Florida once where a muslim woman was denied a drivers license because she refused to have her picture taken with more than her eyes exposed.

I'm waiting for the day when someone creates a religion that says the government must give a "modest" income to those who practice this religion.

The same as a teacher can wear a hat. Suppose I will be surprised at first but then it could be normal.

NO i do not think they should bann it. They should be able to wear what they want. They should have freedom just like everyone else. I hope Amercia does not bann stupid things like that here. If they are going to bad they are going to be bad with or without the head cover.
