Why is Earth such a popular site for the extraterrestrial?

because it's SO easy to cloak ourselves. we can easily take over a human body, and act like that person. And even if I went out on the street and started telling people i was an alien, who would believe me? i mean heck, look at my user name. Thanks to the media, people who know we are here are considered insane. Also, we have been finding out a lot about how the human body and mind works through experience, and much research through abductions and what you call livestock "mutilation." It's hardly mutilation when you look at the scientific reason why we're doing this. Hope this answers your question.

Most of us are here because of the skyrocketing real estate prices back home. If you think prices in California are bad, how does 1.9 trillion Quatloos per square metre grab you? No self-respecting hyper-intelligent hexapod can make ends meet in such an environment (unless they want to stoop to the depths of writing sitcoms or something), so Earth is widely regarded to be a screaming bargain. This is especially true in light of inexpensive intragalactic travel made possible by the new Tesseract Transporter. Another major reason is the inescapable reality that you Earthlings make a MEAN Big Mac. This form of vital sustenance knows no equal within a radius of 80,000 light years. It is, by all accounts, humanity's inter-stellar beacon of haute cuisine. Forget about that RF band SETI crap, the double arches is where it's at.
Some of us are researchers (kind of like when you go live with a bunch of monkeys to learn more about earlier states of your own evolution). Others are unbelievably vicious and dangerous criminals who have spread perturbation and despair on a galactic scale. Usually you can tell this type by their plastic pocket protectors and thick glasses. Just don't mess with them and everything will be copasetic. Still other aliens are novelists who are looking for new and unique plots for their works of "Science Non-Fiction".
So, we really aren't a threat. Just live and let live and watch where you step in case that "person" next to you in the subway has a stray tentacle.

We are here to observe. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

Best world to party. Whatever you want to do except destroy it. There are so many people to play games with why bother to sleep? Just find a fresh one. Feel like trying different foods or different genders whatever makes you happy. It's all good you know....... for them. Maybe they've been watching us so long they make the long trip to see if it's really true for themselves. Maybe they want to visit Roswell and Vegas.

Perhaps they are attracted to the lights from above. I suspect though that they just like playing with the morons that typically swear they have seen them in the woods while on a camping trip.

Human life on earth is one big game to the rest of the galaxy. There's a pool similar to a football pool to predict the date we blow ourselves up. They come down in hopes of seeing it live. Besides, it's the only place you can get Scottish Whiskey.

who is to say that earth is a popular site for them. they may have another popular holiday destination, how are we to know seeing how we are not them?
Maybe they are just trying to explore the universe same as us, or maybe they are trying to make contact to get us all to wake up and realise what we are doing to our planet, and each other
