I dont know if you remember but I am the one with the simple assault conviction from 2003 that asked the question about going on with my life and getting a better job. Well some of you said I should try moving to a different state. Well I did that and Im here in GA now. And I have an 8 year old son. I was just offered a job part time that pays 8 dollars an hour. My son is currently in the state where I use to live. Arrangements were made for him to stay there until Christmas until I get on feet. But now my family wants me to come and get him now. Ive only been here for a month and a half. Im going to get my son. But when I get done bringing in 300 dollars a week and paying childcare, rent, utilities, food, and gas expenses; I dont see 300 dollars stretching that far. I dont know what to do the devil will not when this battle. Thats why I need some of you GOD fearing people out there to offer me the best advice possible. I only want serious answers this is not a joke!

Have you considered government programs, there are many welfare programs that cities and states offer to get people on their feet. Considering your current situation- this would be the best way to do it- this is assuming you have very minimal savings. There are programs that the city has that pay for utilities, rent and food and also programs that help pay for food etc. Hopefully you can talk to a counsellor there at the welfare program and they can advise you better on this because they know all the programs and incentives available to you at your income level.
Good luck with this and wish you the best.

Use any and every government and community agency that you can get information about in your area. Go to the Food Bank, the Salvation Army, the Welfare Office. Do what you must do to create a new start for yourself and your son! These are temporary measures to help you get back on your feet.

The best advice I can give you is to try and find a job as a Resident Caretaker or Manager of an apartment building. It usually involves keeping the building clean (hallways, laundry room , etc.) and/or cleaning and renting available apartments. This is a job that a single mother can do from home in a few hours a day, so you could also have another job outside the apartment. It would solve your childcare problem too, because you could work during the day while he is at school and then do your 'apartment' work when he is home.

Above all, pray. Be strong, make a home and a life for your little family! God Bless.

Work in the trades is always a rewarding one. Whether it be an ironworker, carpenter, plumber, electrician, there is always room for advancement or even self employment. Also you will set a good example for your son, having a hardworking father who loves him enough to do what it taked to support his loved one. Find a place with utilities included, like a basement suite, or apartment. You can get everthing you need right now for 300 a week, even with your son as long as you cook all your meals, eat out twice a month and make it a father-son thing you do every couple weeks. When you come home from work spend all that time with your son, why pay 30 bucks for a movie together when tossing a ball is free. You do not need cable tv, and the bus is always cheaper than driving. Go to church and ask for help...Ask...and you shall receive.

You will have to do whatever it takes and while it won't be easy, you CAN do it. The first thing to be aware of is to stay far away from credit cards and loans. They sound like a way out but you cannot pay back what you don't have. None of us want to ask for help but sometimes we cannot help it. Ask your church for help. Check with the United Way for assistance. There are people with more children, less income, and medical bills out there who are making it. Why not you? You can consider a part time job for more income but that will require more in child care costs. You can cut out alot of the unneccessary expenses and yes, you have some. $1200 a month isn't a huge amount of money for two people but there are people doing it on $1000, doing it on $800, etc. Commit to what you have to do and you'll be amazed that you can do it. You have to. Make sure you are making the most of your taxes to at least get some money back once a year at tax time. Money is great but you have one thing far more important... LOVE.

I realize my answer may be a bit wek, but maybe the solution lies in finding amazing ways of reducing the cost of living to the point where footing the unavoidable bills becomes easier.
Here are a few ideas (I happen to be a bit of a money-miser):
1. You can reduce your power bill by switching to mini-fluorescent bulbs and not using the AC, as well as not cooking hot meals, and reducing the temperature of your hot water boiler to the minimum.
2. You can reduce your gas bill by increasing your tire pressure to the maximum (check your car's manual for those data or ask a tire mechanic)
3. You can reduce your food bill dramatically by cutting out meat and using lentils and eggs instead, or milk, and shunning ready-made meals (the thing that will amaze you is that you will need a lot less food to be full and healthy if you switch to a diet of salads with pulses and native oils and wholegrain bread and brown rice).
4. cut out alcohol and replace it with gourmet coffee and tea
5. no smokes if you do
6. find somebody to share your apartment
7. convince your insurance company that you are taking certain precautions to secure your car and ask for rebates for female drivers
8. build up a social network of people to make sure people are aware of you and your needs (church maybe?)
9. Consider not having a telephone and TV.

I hope this seems practical to you - has helped me a lot.

Stick a paint brush in your back pocket, and start knocking on doors, you'll make more money off the books on week-ends than your reg. job, schedule work for when you can do it (It's hard, I know). I watch nature and learn from her, I was at my boat, I saw a "Herring Gull" beating a bait fish in it's mouth against a pole, the little fish was in it's death throws about to be eaten, the "Gull" flipped the little fish up in the air to swallow it, and the fish gave one last kick before hitting it's demise, and the "Gull" lost it's grip, the fish fell back into the water, and darted away, the "Gull" looked pissed off.. MORAL, NEVER GIVE UP, KEEP TRYING, IF IT'S "IMPOSSIBLE" IT WILL JUST TAKE A LITTLE LONGER, THAT'S ALL !
