......... other plants, when we happen to be so obviously inept at taking care of / dealing with the multitudes of life forms on our own planet? …. What does humanity hope to achieve in its search for extraterrestrial life – kill off all the other life forms throughout the Universe too???

Not likely the scenario you suggest will ever happen. The extraterrestrials have already set this planet aside and made it OFF LIMITS other than for serious scientific investigation into the evolution and development of primitive, warlike entities such as humankind. There is a no-fly zone they have created through which we can not pass. So they really are in no danger.

Incidentally, is this just your subtle way of asking for a quarter to "phone home?"

Hi Dear ЭΩ∞,

You may be right. But I have my own reservations on your point of view.

Let me explain :
1. When people were starving didn't we have Boston Tea Party ?

2. Isn't it humanly impossible to live a life that is full of benevolence and only compassion for fellow human beings ?
Can one continue like that for a long time in this world irrespective of how good that person is ?

Will the world let him continue that way ? No.

3. Wars, invasions, violence on large scale have been a trend in the world's history till date. It hasn't changed significantly even today.

So, let us first accept the humanity as it is with all its limitations.
Now we are open for a discussion.

1. Who are you and I to limit the mankind's scientific explorations including the search in the outer space and about planets and galaxies ? By doing that will not one hamper the mankind's progress and hinder the universal evolution ?

2. Well we don't know much about extra terrestrials and that should not prevent our scientists from exploring the world.
It may so happen that mankind will learn to behave with the fear
of extra terrestrials instead of trying to destroy the ETs.

3. Iron curtain and seclusion policies have been failures in the world's history. By putting some iron curtain around scientific explorations we will not only hamper the human's progress but that policy itself will fail with a lot of losses for the mankind.

That's my opinion Mr. ЭΩ∞.

Today our world has evolved to the state where I can freely express my opinion without any fear. Some achievement for the highly and popularly blamed mankind today !

It is indeed very peculiar for humanity to be curious, suppose they did find other life, what would they treat it other than aliens.

Another thing is, are we looking after the lives that are already on Earth, can you ever imagine the amount of money being spent on looking for life on other planets, the same amount can be spent to make lives of people and other living things on this planet Earth more pleasant or at least livable.

All the slums can be destroyed and proper housing, water and electricity plus education can be provided. More trees can be planted and more forests can be created for other living forms.

That is even more pessimistic than what I think... Wow. Although My view is more of a realistic train of thought than actual pessimistic thought...
True we have treated our world with little care, but they are probably trying to find out if there are any places we could Terra form in the future so we will have a "Fresh start". It is unknown whether the damage to Earth can be repaired, because humans, (in general) don't always realize that everything we do to the Earth changes the way things work. It isn't noticed because it takes any where from twenty, to hundreds of years to see the effects... What we are seeing right now, was from our fore fathers.

Perhaps it is natural with the human beings to be doubly curious about life on another planet.

First of all, a logical guess indicates a high possibility that it exists somewhere in this universe. This generates two impulses, both highly natural - one of ego and the other of insecurity. Ego urges him to find and prove his own superiority. Insecurity too nudges him to find, so that let the worst be faced once for all. Either way, his urge to find is unbearable and uncontrollable.

You are of course right in saying that as and when he does find, he would most probably destroy for ever, as ever!!

Actually, I think if any form of life was found outside of the Earth, people might take a different view of life on this planet - not that you don't have a point...I just hope that it would have a positive effect.

I think humans hope to find other life so they can take over and put us on ristriction, or a time out. We need to be guided like we were as children. And someone to put the blame on. WE have taken on way too much responsibility, we can't go back to our childhood, our parents got old. So have some space mom and dad take over. Maybe we'll get a new bike for Christmas!

Manifest destiny was the main force for bringing you europeans to our continent, Why should it be any different when we're looking into space. As a side note, i'll be happy to colonize Mars or Europa when the time comes....the sense of adventure lures me...but that's just me.

We are so, so curious, aren't we? And when locked inside our nice little lab or library, the problems of the real world are so, so, far away... So far away that the stars seem closer...
