Pujols. He did much more to help his team in so many other categories than Howard.

I think Howard actually as a good shot.

Even though the Cardinals won their division, the fact is that the Phillies actually had a better record than the Cardinals. The Phills were 85-77 (.525) and the Cardinals 83-78 (516).

Howard definitely carried the Phillies, although the Mets got hot and established a double-digit lead by the end of June and really never looked back. I'm not sure the Phillies ever got to within 10 games again from July on.

Pujols did get hurt, and that may hurt his chances. Plus, it depends on if sports writers think Howard is clean...but there's been no evidence that he's not. I don't think Howard should be punished because writers are skeptical about power hitters now... Ryan's "previous track record" consists of his rookie year, so even though he improved in this, his second year (and isn't that what we all like to see in players, seeing them get better each year), it's not like he has a track record of hitting 10 to 15 HRs a year, then all of a sudden bursts through with 50 plus.

I think Howard might win it. The fact that the Cardinals won the World Series is irrelevant, since the voting is completed at the conclusion of the regular season, and playoffs are not taken into consideration in award voting.

And, although I don't know this for a fact, I'll bet if you asked this question at the conclusion of the regular season, rather than after the Cardinals win the World Series, most people would have said Howard should be the MVP.

Pujols barely:

1) He would have had the same power number in HR and RBI's with a better average for the year if he would have been healthy.

2) Howard has Utley, rollins, even burrell. Pujols has... Eckstein, Rolen?

3) Pujols's team made the playoffs, Howard's didn't.

4) No one talks abou this one , but is it just me or do poeple lean towards Pujols because there is a little doubt about Howard been clean?

Pujols wins, not by much though.

I have to vote for Howard. He carried that team on his back and was getting the Bonds treatment and not seeing any good pitches to hit. The MVP is vote before the playoffs begin, and his numbers were better then Pujols who is great , but Howard also played the whole season without injury. Just a great year from the kid.

Tough call. The Phils had no business being in the race if it wasn't for Howard and practically Howard alone. But Pujols missed around a month with injury. The Cards limped out of the regular season. Big congrats to Big Al and the Cards, but my vote is for Howard.

Howard because without him Philly gets nowhere near the postseason. The Cards had other factors

Pujols because not only is he a great hitter, but he improved at 1st base this year a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if he wins the gold glove
