At present, Intel, as their core duo is faster and more energy efficient and comparitively cheaper than the AMD alternatives.

It's been proven by numerous lab test and widely published in all the trade mags.

I'm sure that will change soon as AMD releases their next set of chips, but that's the landscape today.

Depend on what type of work u want to get done.
See AMD processors used word length for speed. U might have AMD 64bit processor. 64bit is the word length ie at one time how much word it can process.
So Amd processors are better suited if u a programmer

While Intel processors give importance to Clock speed(eg 1.9GHz, 3.2GHz) the more the better. These type are better suited for watching video,playing games,songs and even for writing programs ie truly a multimedia pc

Intel has the fastest and cheapest at the moment. Apparently recently they made another breakthrough that should be out in not too much time. They have the dough, they will always be ahead.
