Hi Robert,
I am retired USN and have been living in Iloilo City in the Visayas region 6 (middle). It's a smaller, but growing city with plenty of nice resorts, resturants, shopping malls and best of all the biggest and best Tricare provider in the Philippines. Being retired health care becomes an important issue.
No shortage of beautiful women here as is the case most everywhere else in the Philippines.
Cost of living here:
3/4 br house in a nice subdivision P20,000 ($400)
1 room in a decent pensionne house with aircon and h/w catv.
P13,000 ($260) to P15,000 ($300) . A pensionne house is the closest thing you'll find to a furnished 1 br place that you can rent month to month.
1 or 2 bedroom places are all but impossible to find. Furnished Apartments or houses are non existant. CATV P550 ($12) and DSL 386k P 1,000 ($20) a month is availible.
You can survive here or in Bacolod for $600 a month. You can live very comfortably on $ 900 a month.
Living in our area is at lest 1/3 cheaper than Manila or Cebu.
That's the short answear. Fell free to E mail me if you'd like to know more.
Paul in Iloilo

Well I just moved here from Costa Rica, which was a very dangerous place. And even though the Philippines might be dangerous, but not as much, it is very safe. I think you should stay away from Manila, especially right now after the elections. It can be dangerous down there. Im currently staying in Baguio City, it's very safe here. Im 14 and until now, my parents are allowing me to go out alone, it's extremely safe. There are alot of people here so it's very hard to actually have alot of violence. Like I said, there are so many people that there are hardly any car accidents too. It's a small town, im definitely bored here, but im 14.. so yea, it can get boring. But it's a really nice city to be in to raise a family. If you walk on the street, there is no doubt you wont recognize someone you know. =]

Hi,
Hmmmmm... many, many sweet islands (7107) are waiting for an active person which also wants to learn about the uses and the culture of the Philippines...
For the Culture, you could have a very nice approach on this, in the island Cebu (many nice churches and souvenirs from the Spanish colonization)....
Last but not least if you like to dive, there is a very nice and typical village called "Moalboal" known by many insiders from all around the world.
If you wish to rest and have a good fun too... you are almost welcome on the world famous, white sandy beaches in the island of Boracay (northern point of the island of Panay).
Last but not least ... if you like unspoiled & wild nature .. and see one of the most hidden blue lagoons in this world, go to El Nido on the Island of Palawan, a scuba divers paradise also ...
The other good thing is that you can reach all those unforgetable places within an hour by plane starting from Manila domestic airport.
Welcome to the Philippines !
