I think some people are predisposed to alcoholism. I truly believe that. I am not physically able to stop drinking once I start. However, if I'm sober I can stop myself from drinking, so that's what I do. My brother is the same way- he's still a teenager but every single time he drinks, he drinks to the point of vomiting and passing out. Neither of our parents are alcoholics, but our behaviour is so similar (and we NEVER drink together, so it's not environmental) that it's got to have something to do with genetics.

The question is not why other people choose to drink in a responsible manner but do you have a problem with alcohol? You can not change anyone but your self. Are you powerless over alcohol and has your like become unmanageable? If you have any self doubt I suggest that you visit an open AA meeting in your area.

Hello:

I drink in a responsible manner because I've learned the hard way. Hangovers are harder to deal with as you get older. After awhile, you get tired of apologizing to people the next morning for acting like a butt the night before. I don't spend vast amounts of money on booze like I used to, so I now have more money for other things, like foot, rent, clothing, and other types of fun. I never drank and drove, but I saw some of my friends do it and lose their driver's license and hurt others in accidents. It took a lot, but I think I finally learned how to drink responsibly.
