It's in millimeters. So the difference is 10 millimeters. Tires are sized something like: P225 R75 16. Those letters and numbers refer to:
P225 - A passenger tire that is 225 millimeters wide.
R75 - A radial tire that has a sidewall that is 75 percent the width of the tread.
16 - The tire fits a 16 inch rim.

10 millimeters the width is the first number the series of the tire is the second 70,60,50,40 the distance from the top of the rim to the top of the tire, the lower the number the less sidewall u have makes a harder ride, but better handling and the third is the wheel or rim size 14,15,16,17,on up to 26'' thus far it changes every year, the tires get taller and wider after d.o.t approves it.

the form of a easy tyre is such that the width on the tread (the placement the size which contain 205 is made) is wider than that on the bead (the placement the tyre attaches to the rim of the wheel). there is a few flexibility interior the tyre, so as that particularly some sizes of tyres ought to desire to be perfect for an same length rim - so 205, 215 and 225 tyres will all be stumbled on on a 7J rim. added, this helps some overlap any opposite direction, so a 205 tyre ought to desire to be thoroughly perfect for a 6J 6½J or 7J rim. even because of the fact the outdoors of the wheel ought to desire to diploma greater effective than 7 inches, the 7 pronounced interior the rim length is the size the placement the bead of the tyre attaches, it extremely is and inner extremely than outdoors length. consequently a 7J tyre measures greater effective than 7 inches from inner area to outer face.

you cant get width from that measurement. you need both sets of numbers. 237/75/16 the first two numbers are what you need to tell the actual width. you can go to any on-line tire store and find a tire calculator and it will do the math for you

DawnsDad is dead right when replying on sizing.
Why do you want to change sizes...especially when you didn't even know what change you were making?
Unless you have a VERY good reason do not switch to a wider tire.
