Try reading instead of watching tv

The same thing happens to me because I work until 1am. Sometimes I just lay in bed for hours on end trying to sleep.
I wonder if you do what I catch myself doing: lying there thinking about all the things you have to get done tomorrow, or worrying about work-related or money-related things... Anything at all stressful. It's really hard to stop. The reason I think this keeps me up is because I never had trouble sleeping when I had no responsibilities. Try counting backward from 500 if you think too much like me. Otherwise, don't eat anything or drink sugary drinks about 3 hours before bed. Also i agree about making sure your bed is for sleep only.

TV stimulates your mind. First I would turn off the TV on a schedule that will work for you - say every night at 11 pm. There are also some good meditation type tapes designed to make you drowsy that you can listen to with an ipod or mp3 player. If you like to exercise, do it early in the day. Don't drink too much alcohol - it can put you to sleep, but it will upset good sleep patterns you are trying to establish.

good luck

Turn off the tv. Do something that works the brain and the eyes, such as reading. Does the trick for me.

Another thing that does it is to get real cold and then cover with a warm blanket. No matter how many hours of sleep I had, I fall asleep everytime.

who says what is normal.my dad slept 4 hours a night
i sometimes sleep every other night and have siestas .
go to sleep at 2 am get up at 7am.

when we were hunters and cave men we slept when we were tired
now you insist on having to go to sleep regularly ,why because everybody else does it ,because it is a habit,if you dont feel tired ,have you ever thought that it could be because you dont need to sleep at that time ,
believe me when the body is tired and when you NEED to sleep ,you will
so when you are not tired read a book, play in answers ,do some work ,study, personally i aleays like planting plants at night when i am building a garden (with lights of course )because the shaddows help me in choosing the best position, there are no people around to bother me and the plant suffer the least in the process
so be gratefull instead of worried for the extra time that you got ,we sleep far too much of our lives away as it is.

I'd suggest clicking off the tv. Its keeping you awake. Try settling in to bed about a half hour before the time you'd like to fall asleep. Try reading a book. That usually puts me out pretty quick. The tv keeps me up though.

Before you go to bed, take a hot shower or bath and drink a cup of warm milk, cocoa or tea without caffeine. Avoid coffee, coke and other drinks with caffeine at least 5 hours before bedtime. Keep your room aired out well, quiet and dark. Don't go to bed at 10 if it's too early for you! Better to do something else until midnight and in another room! Many people don't sleep before 12 or 1; it's normal.
Listening to soft instrumental music in bed could help, just make sure it turns it self off.
