The toilet. It's brought no adverse effects to anyone who used it and it serves it's purpose well.

Electricity. Because I can run so many appliances that were invented from the invention of electricity. For example, my refrigerator, I don't have to use an ice block to keep my food cold. I can use lights after the sun goes down.

The telephone.
Because I live far away from Ma and Pa and hearing their voice is so much better than an e-mail.
Even all the high-tech stuff with computers started with telephones, much of the time anyway. Even the Internet.

It is tied with the automobile, though, for obvious (mostly convenience related) reasons.

It would have to be either written language or agriculture. Since someone already picked agriculture I'll go with written language. Before we could write down our thoughts we had no way to store and accumulate knowledge. Just imagine if we were still in the state of those who lived before we started writing things down. We would only know what could be stored in the heads of individual humans. We'd be awfully ignorant.

The wheel because it allowed travel, machinery, tools, etc. It allowed later advances to be built upon it which made man more productive and made life easier for him/her. It increased time for leisure .
Also, prehistoric man's development of sharpened flints which gave him an advantage in securing food, animal skins for warmth, and protection.

Agriculture. It allowed people to remain in one place rather than having to be constantly on the move. Indeed, it was the start of civilization.
