Character named Sonny?

Question

In Fall of 1994, I was a Liberal Arts student at the Univeristy of Louisiana, Lafayette. I had to read a book in my English class. I remember the main character was a boy named Sonny, the story took place in New Orleans in up town, and there was a death in the family and the body was kept in the house till the funeral...does anyone remember reading this book, know the title or know where I could get a copy? I remember I had to buy the book from the Professor....but I don't remember the Professor's name.

I've tracked down the information...the hardest way possible. The book is called..."Fabulous Ancestor" by Donald Demarest...
