My husband is the only one who works. I am a full time student. I can't get insurance because of my pre-existing conditions. With just his income, we would qualify for Pregnancy Medicaid. But, my dad passed away in December, and the money I get from his life insurance puts us over the limit. What other options do I have to pay for a pregnancy. Due to my health, mostly in part to my pre-existing conditions, we know I will have complications & have to have a C-Section. We are ready to have children, but don't seem to have any options on paying for the medical part of it. Any advice? Please, we are desperate for answers.

I haven't officially applied yet, but I called 2 different numbers to ask questions, and both told me the same thing... the money I get from my Dad's insurance is counted as income.

In my opinion, if you wait until the timing is perfect, and you have enough money to raise a child, you will never have children... unless you win the lottery and hire a nanny to raise them. It's just stupid that we are in the same place that the majority of people in this country... we have just about enough money to get by, but too much money for help. In the county I live in, there is another program like Medicaid, but you actually have to be an illegal immigrant to qualify!!! I just hate how it's the law-abiding, tax-paying, all-around good citizens who can't get help from the governemnt anymore. It's almost like you have to break a law (or be illegal) to get noticed. I just think our government is rediculous. Insurance or not. Medicaid or not. We will make it on our own, with no help from the government, and be just fine.

I got denied Medicaid and I live in Pennsylvania. I know that at the hospital, they have a program where they will pay a percentage or even 100% of the pregnancy through the funds that they recieve through the state each year. This is also based on your income, but you will not have to pay the full bill in the end and most people that are denied Medicaid recieve this.

But, I know for certain that you must have already applied for Medicaid and been denied to qualify for this.

I know that you live in a different state, but perhaps you could contact your hospital and they can guide you.

I work for Medicaid in Colorado and I know that Medicaid varies from state to state however, their are programs out there that will help you. Your best bet is to apply anyway, mainly, because if you want to qualify for the other programs you need to be denied Medicaid first. Furthermore, social services should refer you to services as to helping with insurance that may have a premium but it is subsidized by the government and you would have to pay a co-pay. Start with that and demand answers. Contact a pregnancy crisis center as well because they will have a wealth of local information. Hope this helps.

Do you have a Planned Parenthood Clinic where you live? If so make an appointment and ask to speak to someone who may be able to lead you in the right direction for assistance. Sometimes local hospitals have a clinic for women that cannot afford to pay for the expense of care during pregnancy, where they can go free of charge. Check to see if you have Planned Parenthood or Birthright where you live. Good Luck to you.

If you can't afford the finances of having a baby then you're not ready to have children. You might be ready emotionally but it takes more than emotions to raise a child. Since medicaid turned you down I can only suggest that you wait until you are employed and can get at least some kind of insurance through your employer.

call your local insurance agencys they might know what to do. Also I would talk to medicaid again about your situation. I know they can be jerks. sorry, but congrats at the same time. I also suggest mabey talking to the local hospital and see what they say, they might also have referalls.

Why didn't you wait to have children? I understand if your birth control failed but why plan a baby you can't afford to have delivered? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious.

edit: What about a pay as you go? Are you able to do that with the life insurance policy?
