counterpoint, as in Johann Sebastien Bach, Prelude & Fugue, cousin(?) or grandparent(?) of syncopation, as in Scott Joplin, and variations of it in a lot of other jazz too

I would think the main one was the musical instruments, the trumpet, the saxophone , the clarinet, the piano, the trombone, the double bass, the guitar, the banjo. No instruments no music
