The mainstream media is indeed liberal...at times. Conservative at others. Keeping the panic at a low sweat stage most of the time.
Actually, I worked in a TV newsroom for many years, I can tell you from personal experience that the decisions that are made are based on journalistic theory, ratings and the "wow" factor (if it bleeds, it leads). Are some newsrooms biased? Sure they are. Some lean left, some lean right, some are more prone to the command of the $$$$ than others. Some anchors bring specific agendas, and I am not just about the big names. During the beginning of the Israeli/Lebanon War, I saw some horribly biased conduct by weekend anchors at MSNBC and CNN. That's just one example.
That is why you need to get your news from numerous sources, take all with a grain of salt...and do your own research. Somewhere in the middle, you will find the truth.
