It's all ready been proven by some Princeton Professor. I can give you the name of a guy that has been writing code since 1959. He is an expert at retrieving forensic evidence from computers. He used to teach at MIT, and can break almost any security system open. Call him and ask him........ YES they can and already HAVE been hacked.
The old machines and ballots are not much better. who counts the votes? A person that is called an election commissioner. Think they don't cheat to put people in? THINK AGAIN!
**Note to: SENIOR CITIZEN. What planet are "YOU" from? Flush your head out grandpa..... you must have been born and raised in a bubble. We've got secret government and NATIONAL SECURITY to stop anyone from being able to "find" anything and "correct" it. You wanna believe in fairytales? Fine but don't sell your song and dance to the rest of us. K?

Yes of course a machine can be designed as such. We have made machines that go to the moon and beyond, we can make a machine that counts however we want. Currently our voting machines already do such a service. When you vote, you'll notice that many things you vote for have explanations with them. Someone had to pen those words to be put on the ballot. Sadly, more often than not, that person crafts words around such that the person voting ends up voting completely opposite of what he would have if the wording were the same, but said differently.

Though I buy the point that it is difficult provided the security, volunteers etc, but the fact remains that despite the best efforts Crime could not be stopped....only the rate of crime differs depending on the police & vigil. Hence such possibilities cannot be ruled out.
Even if a code is present to check the hardware and accuracy of the working of the machine....what's the security for the software (data) content?.....
My friend now that u have thought of this ...just tell the world how we can provide a fool-proof voting....all democracies in the world would be grateful to You.

yes it can but so can paper ballots. if you have 100 votes and a shady election official it doesnt matter if its paper or a machine that shady election official can take out paper votes and replace them with other paper votes easier than he can insert a access card into a machine to change a vote. im not 100% sure as to why people think because we have voter machines voter fraud is going to go up.
fraud is fraud electronic or paper if they are going to comit it it doesnt matter if its by machine or by paper either way its illegal so haveing a machine doesnt change anything. i would say now it makes it harder to comit frauid because now you have to have the technology available to hack the system. and how many election officials do you know that have the brains to hack a computer. most of them dont even know what a computer is they are so old

Yes, This is possible.
A voting machine is nothing but an electronic circuit with a microprocessios. Easily it can be programmed in a manner that it counts all votes for a single candidate. Also, This change can be done by any one who has a basic knowledge of electronic circuitory.

The machine can be electronic but it should have a paper back up.
I won't ever trust a totally electronic vote machine.
There will be no end of things tried to change the out come from those type of machines.

With today's technology there is a way for this year, but, next year?? As stupid and impractible as it may sound I would revert to voting like New Hampshire. Small groups, townhalls, people that know who it is exactly is voting. The results would take forever to tabulate, however, with modern tech, it took Florida how many months in 2004?

It would be so easy. Here is an example of some extremely simple code:
If Request.Form(vote) = "Candidate(A)" then
Vote = 1.5
elseif Request.Form(vote) = "Candidate(B)" then
Vote = .75
end if
That is ridiculous code, but you should see the possibilities here. If a vote is cast for Candidate(A) then it is counted 1.5 times, meaning Candidate(A) is getting one and a half times the vote he/she deserves, while Candidate(B) only receives 3/4's of a vote.
Simple math and believe me, the Republicans will win if that is what the government wants. We're screwed. Face it.

Sure. Voting machines can be rigged to do anything, even serve you a cup of coffee when you press the right buttons.
The safest ballot is a paper ballot that can be handled and controlled.
