Ok, I dont know anything about computers or how they work. I have a laptop and i download a lot of music and its taking up a lot of memory. If i buy a memory stick, can i put all my music on it to clear up some memory and access it just by plugging in the memory stick? Can I put my whole itunes and limewire programs on the stick so they are not on my comp and just open them up and download more songs by plugging in the memory stick? or can i only put the music on and leave the program on the laptop?

yes, as long as you put them onto the stick in itunes format. To put them on, simply open iTunes, go to File>import>look in>my computer>and it should let you choose your memory stick. Put them onto the playlist you want and then onto your ipod. To conserve space, you will have to delete the songs from the iTunes player once your done and disconnected.
So, in essence, you are storing them on the stick and putting them onto iTunes temporarily, then deleting them.

You would not be able to run the software programs from your memory key, but you would be able to put music on it. The issue is if you have a lot of music, you probably won't be able to put it all on one memory key. They usually come in 512MB to 1GB sizes which for the sake of simplicity, if each MP3 was 5MB in size, you could only get roughly 100 songs on a 512 memory stick. You can see where that could become an issue.

An alternative that people do frequently is purchase an external hard drive that plugs into a USB port and you can save all your songs on that. That way your space is no longer limited to the constraints of a flash drive.

Your memory stick's file size are smaller than your laptop hard drive. I would recommend to buy an external hard drive if you want to put extra storage. Here the better one! Visit box.net and sign up for free 1 GB online storage and it contain no ad and no virus. Its a very clean website.

Are we talking about hard drive space? If so, you could copy the music files to a Cd or a DVD or load them to your ipod using the .wma format. That will allow you to load the maximum amount of music to the ipod without any loss in sound quality. MP3 formats take up twice as much space. So, you can get twice as many songs onto the ipod using .wma format.

If you just want to clear some space on your laptop, you should burn your music into some DVDs, when you want to listen to them, just put your disc in. Don't use memory stick just to store music
