I was in the shower doing my monthly breast exam and I noticed that I had a course black hair growing in on my breast right outside my nipple. I have a few light colored hairs growing on my breast, but this one was much thicker and more course. Is this normal? What causes these hairs to grow in?

Pluck 'em... It is not really painful. I have fair hair/skin and I have been getting dark thick hairs there since I was about 17. I think that they're supposed to help a nursing baby find the nipple, along with the "bull's eye" of the aureola.

Age I'm afraid. It comes with the territory. I remember going for electrolysis on my eyebrows in my early 20's. There was a diagram on the wall of the areas where elec. was most used, including breasts. I commented to the tech. that thank god I didn't have that problem. She said it's older women who need that. Sure enough, in my 30's I started to get some, and now they're a regular, unpleasant event. Aging sucks!

Honestly its just aging. As you get older your hair gets thicker, corser, darker and they grow in spots that you never thought hair would grow. Its usually nothing to worry about at all if its only a couple. If you start growing a beard and a bunch of black hair starts to grow then head to the doctor, it could be a hormonal thing such as just being pregnant. I am sure you are fine so dont worry ...just pluck out those random hairs lol.

It's very possible you have a horomone imbalance or you have something like polycystic uterus (ok have no clue how to spell that) or even worse, a problem with your kidney.

I just got out the hospital because I let my problem go on to long and if left unchecked, this horomone imbalance can cause the wall in your uterus to break down. I was bleeding for about a month and in my case, ended up being rushed to the hopsital.

It really may be nothing but it could be very serious so get to your doctor and have them check you out!
