I think many people are weary of helping a beggar. Whether it be that they feel that there are too many public assistance measures in place or they fear that their money will be spent on alcohol and drugs, people are hesitant to help these people out. There have been news programs where a person will pan handle, make money and wlak a few blocks and get in their sports car. I wonder about the people who hold a sign on the corner all day that says "Will work for food" why they can't get a job at McDonalds at least. It is sad that in society we are faced with this dilema.

By virtue of existence, each of us serves a purpose, even if we do not consciously pursue it. Regardless of a begger's true financial status, he exists to serve as an example for others; to remind us to take care of ourselves and work hard, so we may not end up in that state; to remind us to be thankful. Do not judge, for in all of us, there is weakness, desperation, and loneliness. Besides, you'll possibly be buying booze and drugs, too!

The Bible does commend compassion and justice as acts which we all need to seriously perform. Thank you for the reminder.
The Bible also reminds us that we will always have the poor among us. They have the same freedoms we have to make the decisions which render their life so painful.
