I have to go monday on my due date to have an ultrasound and an appointment because the doc. believes that my baby is to big to fit through my birth canal. They dont believe that I will be able to have him naturally because I am a petite person and my doc. said when he is feeling around on my belly and my pelvic area that he is head down but he is so big that his head isnt going down there. Anyway, I was wondering if I end up having to have a c-section, what happens to all of the water that is supposed to break and the mucous plug? I havent dilated and only mostly effaced but what if my water doesnt break and I havent lost my mucous plug. Will they suck it out with something or will they try and make me dilate and break my water? Sorry I am a first time mom and I didnt think that I would need a c-section at all because everything has gone so great, so it was a surprise today when he told me that. Thanks for all your help!

It's good you know you'll have a big baby- my doctors didn't even know this, and I"m also petite- and was healthy, my baby was very healthy also.... so they had no idea (with all the tests they did, I had nothing wrong with me). So I was in labor for 19hrs when my epidural wore off the last 4 hrs (the worst pain of my life) I was almost fully dilated, and my baby just wasn't descending down. So they finally took me c-section- but the spinal epidural didn't work either- I had to be put under. The doctors will take care of all that and clean you out really good too. With your baby being bigger, there might not be much water- when my water broke, it was just a trickle. But they will also take care of the placenta and all that during the c-section.

I'm honestly still traumatized by my whole experience, so at least you know what you are getting into. The c-section itself will be difficult- took me a good 2 months to fully recover, and I still (after a year) get pains here and there. Advice I have for you- let others help you as much as possible. We didn't have much family, so I had to do everything once my husband went back to work a week after our son was born. It was really difficult and painful. But if you get up and move around like the nurses will want you to soon after, the better off you'll be. I hate to see anyone go through this now that I know what it was like. Gas bubbles are the worst. That and constipation. You can't laugh, sneeze or anything without it hurting... put a blanket they have at the hospital (one of the white ones) and roll it up so it's a line... put that on top of your inscision and keep the pressure on it. Especially when you laugh or caugh, sneeze, etc. Even when I walked, I did that, and that really helped!

Well, I wish you the best- just remember what a blessing you'll have! I know it might sound bad what I said, but trust me, it's worth it all. I'm a little nervous to try it all again, but I think someday I will, because our son gives us so much love and happiness.

Also- after all that labor I had, I felt like a failure just a little bit for a few minutes when they told me I had to have a c-section- but please don't think that- I realized too, I did all I could, and my son was 9lbs 10oz, he definitely wasn't fitting- his head was formed like a cone kind of too after birth, but did get back to normal.

Goodluck and congrats!!! P.S. I saw your name, and my son's name is Ethan too lol

I have had two C sections for the same reasons. I am average size but still had a birth canal that was too narrow and not child bearing. As far as the water and plug, they must have got rid of that for me cause after I had both of my boys, I had a normal period for about 10 days. It was a little heavier than usual for the first week, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. i never asked the dr what they did with the plug etc, but trust me they must get rid of it for you. They will not break your waters either, I think this is part of a C section procedure. All i did was go in pregnant and came out with a beautiful baby, good luck and try not to panick, C sections are not that bad. Yes you will be sore but each day gets a little better. Enjoy your new baby!!!

Petite women give birth all the time! Your doctor can only guess at the size of the baby. They kept insisting that mine would be over 9 pounds. he was 7.5! Does your doctor have a house payment coming soon? C-sections sure do make a him a lot more money!

I did end up with a c-section because he did not descend, but it wasn't because he was too big. My daughter was born vaginally 10 years ago, but my body wouldn't cooperate this time around. We tried everything natural and artificial to get him born. I did go through 12 hours of pitocin induced labor after my water broke naturally.

I think it is important to let you body TRY to do what is natural. Contractions are important for optimum lung function in a newborn.
Also, if you do go into labor be sure to let gravity help that baby come down. Walk around, squat, kneel, rock and bounce! Lying flat on your back, or semi reclined is a horrible way to give birth.

Don't worry about anything, I have had 2 C-sections. The first was an emergency and his heart rate was dropping dramatically and they took him out without pain killers. Yours will be like my second, which was planned c-section. I had complications even though I was due for a c-section from my previous cut. Anyhow, they will clean you up, give you an epidural and then take you into the operating room. They will put up a big sheet so you and your husband can't see anything and then once they get you open, they will suck out all the water, mucus, and all the mess. You will hear your little baby cry and you will be full of joy and tears!! Its a magical moment to see your child born. You won't even know what's going on because you'll be focusing on the little cries while they clean him/her up. They will then make sure they clean you all out and sew you all up. You will then be wheeled back to the recovery room and they will bring in your little baby!! I recommend that you have lots of overnight pads and percocetts to relieve the pain. You will be really happy to be with your baby. After my second C-Section I was out shopping with my baby on my second day out of the hospital. My baby was only 5 days old. Don't let the doctor scare you, I was doing situps in the army at 7 weeks. (crunchers) just take it easy and do what you can that doesn't make you uncomfortable. Good luck and I wish you the best in your future with your new bundle of joy!! Congrats!!

Congrats!!!

I had a c-section with my one and only child and they didn't break my water or anything like that. They knew i needed a c-section cause he was breech and plus i went into labor (they couldn't stop it) at 35.5 weeks. He was and is healthy. I remember that i did dilate to 4cm and the fluid around my baby was leaking out but that happened because i went to one hospital and because i was early they flew me to a university hospital but i did dilate even though i couldn't have him.

I swear i do not even know what a mucous plug is and i have a child. I would say all of that will be coming out of you when they do the c-section or afterwards...

When i woke up from having my csection the nurses were pushing on my stomach (massaging) to get my uterus to go back down to size and it was pushing blood out of me.

I wasn't awake for my c-section cause i chose not to be. It does hurt so have someone to help you with the baby atleast for a week or 2........

Rest as much as you can at the hospital and sleep when your baby sleeps.

Good luck

Ive had a c-section with my first born, doctor broke my water bag then i went into hard labor after that and when he saw that I wasnt dialating he performed a c-sec. I have had two other children after and I ve had them naturally. It may be harder for some if its first time pregnancy but you never know, you may be able to deliver vaginaly. If you want to try to have your baby vaginally then tell your doct. and if your not dialating then you can get a c-section. I ask for a chance to have my second vag. cause I didnt want to have another operation. The recovering time is too long. As oppose to having a vaginal delivery to where I was on my feet the next day. Big Big difference. I hope you will be able to deliver naturally. Its so much easier. Good Luck

They will break your water when they open you up and suck it out. I don't think they mess with the mucous plug. Even after a c-sec. you can expect to bleed from 4 to 6 weeks, sometimes longer and I'm sure the plug would come out with all that mess. Stock up on those pads!
Don't stress over it. What must be done will be done and soon you'll be enjoying a wonderful new baby. Good luck.

I had a scheduled c-section with my son, they take care of everything when they do the s-section. They tried inducing me twice and sent me to a bigger hospital for the third time when that didn't work. There they told me my son was over 10 pounds (they guestimated this from the ultrasound) and if they induced me with stronger stuff it would more than likely work, but my son was at risk if i did it. They told me al the things that could happen and i agreed i should deal with the pain and discomfort instead of him and told them to slice me. It is not a pleasant experience, but i am more than willing to do it again if need be with the child my husband and i are working on having now. Any more questions send me a message or e-mail and i'll be glad to help!

i was afirst time mom as you too well when doctors specially the one that has been diagniosing you since last months know every thing about you. so if you still have doubts you'll have to immediatel find another doc to consult or otherwise trust your doc hell keep you safe in his or her hand. Moreover don't worry about the water b/c if you have to go for a c-section the'll do everything .It sure is painfull after the first day is over .But once you have your baby in your hands you'll forget everything best wishes my friend god bless you and your baby.

I had one and they broke mine before I went in, but they broke mine early on because i was trying to deliver naturally. I am not too sure how they do it in your situation. I will say having a c-section is a scary thing if you don't know what to expect. Just remember they result of it all, a precious baby. If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be glad to help. I have had a baby both ways and if I had to do it again, i would have a c-section for sure. good luck!
