I had a baby two weeks ago and feel ready to resume sex. I delivered vaginally and had only a small tear which they stitched. When I get turned on its a little uncomfortable because I feel it swelling down there which happened after my first child as well. Their is light bleeding still but other than that I feel fine down there. If I have sex now can I damage anything?

Consult your Doctor. Depends on what is going on with your body. Swelling and bleeding not time yet. This is something you should be careful with. Think of how great it will be if you let yourself heal and you can have sex with out complications. Only your Doctor knows after examination.

Your body needs time to heal. The main reason they say six weeks is that's when you have your 6 week check up. There they make sure everything is healing well and they talk about birth control. You don't want to get pregnant again that soon. Your period needs time to get back to normal. But I would ask your doctor first. I personally waited the 6 weeks.

Technically, you can have sex again as soon as you feel up to it. However, if your injuries are still tender, I would avoid sex until you have healed more. You don't want to risk tearing yourself again, which will be painful! Give it another week or so... Practice mutual masturbation (external only!--just like high school) if you really are getting impatient.
I was ready after about three weeks; I waited until the fourth because I was still bleeding and my hubby thought it was gross. I started my next regular period a week after that.

I havnt had a baby in six years, but I think its around 6 weeks as the others have said. I will say, I did have sex about 2 weeks afterwards once, but I think the main reason they want you to wait is because the uterus is prone to infection because it hasnt healed yet. I would probably wait to be safe.

They say six weeks safely because that is a general time of how long it takes your cervix to close (if you had a normal pregnancy) because if you have sex before your cervix closes bacteria can get into the uterus and can lead to an infection, or a life threatening concern. fooling around is fine as well JUST DO NOT have a man go down on you because this can introduce air into your uterus causing and embolism and that is fatal.

They really want you to wait six weeks. This is because your cervix is not yet closed and you can introduce infection into the uterus very easily. You can fool aound, just don't have penetrative sex until you have you six-week checkup.

Doctor's usually give you the green light after your 6 week check-up. They want to make sure everything is healed up and back where it's supposed to be!

I am pretty sure its about 6 weeks, but if you gave birth in a hospital your doctor.mid wife should have informed you of this, maybe call the hospital back, you shouldn't just leave this to amateur answers.

6 weeks,i waited longer since i had very "rough"births...i think that's too soon anyway.when i was born they recommended 90 days.i think that's better.least chance of infections and ovarian/cervical cancers.and "tubal"pregnancy.
