I was there two years ago and it was great. However, it is not the safest place to visit. Keep in mind, don't travel alone and don't look too much like a tourist. If you stay in a group, you should be fine. The hardest part of being in Zimbabwe, is all the solicitations you will get. Someone trying to sell you something at all times. It becomes a bit overwhelming. Try to prearrange a tour before going and travel with some buddies.

I went there in 2000 and it was a great experience...
That was 6 years ago.
Bunji jumped! (awesome I'd do it again!)
Rafted the Zambezi! (would never do it again- way to dangerous)
And toured the Victoria falls. (awesome!)

The airport was crooked. Kept our luggage and even though we knew the combination to our locks they would not release without a lot of back a forth for 3 days. We think they wanted to be bribed- it can be that corrupt.

Now we were told Americans should not go there because of uprising in the diamond mines and Americans being killed- but didn't really feel unsafe- it may be worse or better now not sure.
It is crucial to schedule anything through a trusted guided service to give you transportation and safe accommodations.
I would read more current events before going - but it was something I will never forget.
We went to Tanzania and it was way more tourist friendly. They love you and your money and they welcome all you bring to their country- "they don't bite the hand that feeds them" Money wise.
A very nice comfortable country even better than Kenya - I think.
It really depends on the president of the country and if someone corrupt it running it- the experience you have could be very different. But overall Very WELL WORTH IT!

Hi

Tourist are still going but mainly to Victoria falls and surrounding areas. The economy of the country is falling apart and opposition to the current government is strongly repressed. Their are reports of food shortages etc so if your concensense will let you travel and eat well then you will be fairly safe but this is Africa and it not as safe generally as Western countries. See

Depends on your profession. If your a journalist it might not be wise to visit Mugabe's kingdom. Otherwise, if you're just another turist, go ahead, there's nothing to worry. Enjoy what the country has to offer and ignore the politics.
