It is a natural reflex to mistrust those who are not like us. We feel safe with those we know. Traditionally, those we know are those who live near us, therefore they look like us and talk like us (so they're the same "race"). Imagine you're living in a mountainous area and all your life have never seen outsiders - how would you know what those outsiders are like if you meet them? Your survival instincts warn you to mistrust them. And that would have been a good thing in a lot of situations - if you look at the history of warfare and expansionism. Quite often those who look different ARE the enemy and they mean you harm. In today's world, racism is diminishing as people move all over the globe and races mix more and more (can't hate the in-laws, can you!?) However, people who LOOK different quite often come from some other place with a different culture, sometimes a different religion - and those two things are what we all feel deepest about - who we are and what we believe. So racism is a reaction to people we fear will threaten our way of life. It'll be a long time before humanity is sufficiently "blended" and the differences become less important.

Fear, people are afraid of what they don't understand. If people took the time to get to know others from different cultures then they would realise they have nothing to fear and there would be no racism.

It doesn't matter if someone's skin is different, it is the person they are on the inside that matters

I am not sure myself, could be a number of factors like negative experiences in life, how a person sees him/her self, family education, genetics, etc...

And of course skin differences does not matter, which I wonder why even ask that secondary question in the first place?

The twins (black girl & white girl) that were born in Europe proved that God created all men equal. Climate and Regions of this earth allows human apperances to look a certin way, the color of their skin and genetic makeup. Billions of people have O,A,AB, B blood types and when you need a transfusion you do not know if the person is black, white, brown or yellow. Looks can really be deceiving...

It's a scary world sometimes. Some people need someone else who is different than they are to blame their fear on. Other than that, just plain stupidity. They must not have anything better to do. Why would skin color make a difference?

It is a major fallacy of human intelligence. Look is superficial, faith is internal and nationality is man-made. What is important in human beings is humanness. This is the teaching of Hindu philosophy which since time immemorial seeks the welfare of the mankind as a whole, without discriminating on basis of race, colour or creed.

There is Racsim because everyone wants to believe that they are the best. And they will go so far as to say that other races are inferior to their own, just to try and prove how great they are. It has been around for centuries, since the begining of civilization and it will be here as long as people are here.

Depends on how you define it. I think Sharpton and Jackson are racists. They constantly blame everything on race. Everytime a black person has a problem with someone, it is always because the person is racist against blacks.
