I saw somebody at Wal Mart who was suspicious. I did not see the person stealing but it looked like stealing (position and movement). If you report somebody who stole and it is recorded, will you get a reward for helping to stop a crime?

I could write:
I shopped at Wal Mart and went out. There were pumpkins for sale outside. I saw a big dark car. The car was parked where parking is not allowed and where the pumpkins were. It looked very suspicious. In this position it was easy to steel some pumpkins. I did not see them steeling the pumpkins. They opened the car door several times and went to the pumpkins. I think that they stole some pumpkins. There is no other reason to park there. A camera should recorded this area. It would be necessary to check the video recording. I saw the car on Thursday 26. August 2006 about 5:00 to 5:10 PM in ....., Nevada.
I am not 100% sure but I still want to report a possible crime. Can you tell Wal Mart to look at the video?

Your letter is too vague. They won't be able to act on your information, so I wouldn't bother. If they have video surveillance, then they'll already see if a theft occurred.
But there's nothing they could do with your information anyway.
1. You don't know if a theft occurred.
2. You have no identifying information on who might have done it.
Stores usually let you know in advance if they offer rewards. But your information is far too vague to help them in any way.

There is no law but would be up to the individual manager to reward you in some manner. But before you report you need to be 100% Positive that the person HAS committed a crime for if you report just on the person looking suspicious to you and it turns out they did not then you can be sued. Why when a store employee suspects ,even sees they usually wait until the suspect is leaving the store for that makes their intention very clear- for the store also can be sued.

no. while I'm sure you are being truthful, but a person cannot accuse another of stealing . In other words, without proof,no one cannot be charged.Unless security or management actually sees it happens (live or on camera) walmart can't do much ,mainly because what company wants to be sued for false accusations?Besides getting the thief caught should be its own reward :)

no, but once I seriously considered stealing at walmart because their checkout lines are always so long...and I was fed up.
Fix that and you deserve a reward!
