It's definetely possible! Stress does horrible things to our bodies. I was extremely stressed when I was pregnant (husband deployed to Iraq) and ended up having a very small (but healthy) baby. I've done quite a bit of reading on the subject! I believe it has to do with how our bodies handle stress. Everyone is different. I tend to internalize it, which causes health problems. Your sister could manifest stress in the same manner.
"Women who experience excessive stress and victims of domestic violence or other abuse also may be at increased risk of having a low-birthweight baby."

Extreme emotional stress has been associated with an increased risk for pregnancy loss. I am not aware of stress being linked to small babies. Babies can be tiny at birth for a large variety of reasons. Many of the reasons are out of the mother's control.
For the people who say that it is definitely possible for stress to cause a baby to be born tiny, I'd be interested to see their sources of information.

Stress greatly reduces the body's ability to rest, and rebuild. It can harm the immune system. Stress has a much greater influence on the body then the public understand. Yes, stress can raise the mothers need to supply itself and reduce the baby's nourishment.

The baby takes all it needs from the mom while in utero. She's just tiny and will probably always be a lil petite!

I was MEGA stressed, anemic, and threw up for 7 months, and I STILL had a 7lb 3oz baby girl. I really dont think stress would affect it. The body will deprive the mother before it deprives the baby

A small chance... How small is small to you? 5.5 lbs is very common now, 10 years ago 8 lbs was normal, now that is considered large.
