1.San Quentin is on the north side of the 80 freeway. Its actually closer to Berkley which as you probably already know is between Oakland and San Francisco. You can see it from the Berkley marina.
2.Write him and tell him to talk to his Counselor after his two week quarantine period is up and his counselor can help him make all the arrangements for your wedding.
3.You can visit him on Saturdays,Sundays and some holidays. If you go before he gets released to population (main yard)it will be through the glass. If you wait two weeks(contact visit) you and the children will be able to hug and hold him.

He should have provided you with guidelines along with the visiting form he sent. In federal, the application has the basics on it. If not, contact the prison or check out their web site, and ask for the rules and hours in writing. Don't take anyone's word for it. There may be a web site with DOC rules, but it varies at each institution, as do visiting times and days.

Don't take any other inmate family's word for anything. I've seen them lie about the hours so that the new people would be late, thus assuring them of being in line earlier.

In federal, what you can take in and how you can dress varies daily, depending on who is at the front desk, if they are professional and know their job, or if they are an idiot on a power trip. The approved shoes you wore on the last four visits may suddenly not suit that day's officer, and don't even try to wear a scarf in your hair, although 400 clacking extensions with beads are just fine. Don't count on anything, and you won't be disapointed.

Prepare for any possibility, especially if you're taking a child with you. If I were you, I wouldn't take the child on the first visit at all. You need to find out how professional they are, if they have lockers, if you'll lose your place in processing if you have to take something back to your car and wind up behind another 200 people all over again....do you want to tote a kid through all of that??? Find out how many diapers and bottles you're allowed ahead of time, not when the baby is screaming its head off and you have to leave.

And please, altho I know you're in agonies over the separation, don't even worry about trying to get married right now. In the federal system, that can take years, even if his counselor is literate and knows a few basic rules. Not to be unkind, but you apparently can't even use a map to find the place. Don't confuse the situation more by blood tests, state laws and all that for a prison wedding.

Good luck to you, and blessings on you for sticking with him. This is a very hard life, and people love to be unkind to you about it. They believe all they see on TV about prisons and our justice system, and have no idea of how hard things are for the families.
