What kind of business are you in ? Or are you working in a company ?

If you are just a employee inside a company, just tell him it violate company policy.

If you are independent business, then it is up to you to make up rules of your own.

Never tell your client how much you make. Just simply say that you don't make a set salary, but depend on the amount of business you bring in. There are certain things clients should not know because it creates stress and tension between you and the clients.

Be polite but do not disclose your salary, pricing, or earnings. Most clients want to use this information to determine if they are being over charged. The problem is that they don't take into account overhead costs, utility expenses, any advertising costs you are incurring, or promotional costs. They are likely to compare apples to oranges and without all the information you have they will likely feel that you are gouging them. Keep you financial information private.

Jokingly tell him, "It is never enough, that's why I keep working so hard." As a client he should only know what he pays you...if he doesn't pay you and your company pays you... then you could also jokingly ask, "Why? Do you want to offer me more?" It usually stops there.

Asking someone's salary is generally rude unless they are offering you a job. Although some cultures do not have the same personal boundaries.

Never disclose any personal matters with a client. This is disclosed information that should not be given especially if you are working for a business as this is also considered the businesses confidential agreement act.

I recommend you nicely say that is personal information and leave it at that.

Being a business woman myself, most women feel somewhat obligated to conform to the "personal details" of their life easily. Please do not be one of these women. We like to feel that we need to be liked, and unfortunately have a hard time sometimes saying - none of your business. I've learned to keep my mouth shut about my age, my marital status, and any other personal info that a client or coworker really does not need to know.

Keep your info to yourself. And Good luck girl!

That's private information. If you are a good BSer, talk around it. If not just ignore the question. If you continue to get pushed, just say I'd rather not talk about how much money I make, so please don't ask me again. Your client should know better.

That is strange that your client would ask you that question... I personally would try to talk and joke my way around to prevent giving him the answer of what you make.

Also, it depends on his or her personality trait...

i definently dont discuss what we make. we own sunglass kiosk in several malls and even the wholesalers we get our glasses from ask what we make. but we dont discuss it with them. we just tell them how much we sell them for. we also get alot of people who ask how much we pay wholesale. but of course thats no ones business either. u dont want someone thinking that its a great idea and start to do what your doing because they know u are making good money. people dont usually ask what someone else makes. thats private. but there are people who ask because they have interest in it. sometimes for themselves/

Nope.....I good answer is enough for now....and I'll retire when I make enough...I'll call you when that happens!...now back to you!
.........turn the conversation back to them...and you keep asking the questions.

The person who ask questions....tends to control the conversation.

It's private...your salary has nothing to do with them unless they want to pay your bills...even then it's private!

Just tell him. One should always please a customer. Maybe he wants to hire you, since you have done such a great job serving them and now he wants to have you in-house. By revealing your salary, he might just offer to pay you higher.
