You can email songs to your friend's computer. Just attach them to your email like any other file. It will take awhile to receive such an email, but it works.

NOTE: This applies to Windows computers only. I have had success Windows 2000 and XP. However, I believe it should work for other editions.

Apple has made it very tedious to get songs off an ipod, but not impossible. Before you go through the following process be aware that you won't be able to put songs purchased with itunes on your ipod unless you have a license. All other songs should be fine though.

To get your friends songs you first need to make sure your friends ipod is connected to your computer. Also have itunes open.

First go to "My Computer". Make sure "hidden files" are made visible. To do this go to: Tools -> Folder Options -> View . Then scroll down to where there is a folder with the heading "Hidden files and folders". Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected. Click "OK".

Now on "My Computer" find the icon corresponding to your friends ipod. Right click and click on "Explore". A new window should have opened. Click on "iPod Control".

You can put the music on in several ways. The following is the easiest, but can be time consuming if the ipod has a lot of music on it: drag the folder "Music" to itunes. To drag the folder simply click on the folder without letting go and dragging the folder to itunes music list. Anywhere on the music list should work. This should put all of your friends music on itunes. Another way is to click on the "Music" folder and then search through all the folders that are in there. This is very hard to do since each song is given a code name on your ipod.

Depending on your itunes settings, it is possible that your friends music wasn't copied to your computer. If you want to do this click "Advanced" on itunes and click "Consolidate Library". But this can also be time consuming. If you don't want to consolidate the library, you can always copy the "Music" folder to a place of your liking and then once that is done drag it into itunes. Songs you don't want can always be deleted later.

Make sure you have the songs on your computer. This is important because once you disconnect your friends ipod you won't have access to the songs and won't be able to put them on your ipod.

You can now put the songs like you normally would using itunes.

Hopefully my instructions where clear. I actually discovered this myself and has worked perfectly for me. I gave different ways of actually putting the songs on itunes so you can choose what is best for you.

EDIT: I just realized you can't drag the "Music" folder into itunes because itunes only lets you drag a folder if there are no other folders inside. So, you have to open the "Music" folder and then drag the folders into itunes. Sorry about that confusion.

You can't (that I know of)...you can only put music from the computer that your iPod i authorized for onto your iPod. I can't even put my own music on my work computer onto my iPod because it's authorized for my computer at home.

You can however, put free content like podcasts onto your iPod from any computer.

I know you can because my friend brought over his iPod and we were experimenting. It took us like ten minutes, but we did figure it out though! I promise you you can, but I just forgot how.
