Go to a home improvement store: Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc. and take the broken sash with you to the store so the salesperson can help you find what you need.

Old wood type windows operate with sash cords and counter weights inside the wall. Most of them have an access panel you can get into on each side of the window at the bottom. Usually just a screw holds this in place. remove the panel feed the new sash cord through the pulley at the top and let it come down to the weight cavity. Tie one end to the weight and the other has a knot in it that fits into a cutout in the side of the sash itself. You want to make sure that when the sash is open all the way that the sash weight is down but not resting on the bottom. Also make sure cord is long enough so that when sash is closed the weight doesn't hit the pulley at the top. Hopefully this is the type of windows that you have and this will help. Good luck.

You have to prop the window open and rip out the little panel inside the side of the frame at the bottom to get the counterweight back. You might have to take the sliding frame right out to attach the new cord, too. After putting it back together you need to repaint it all. A fairly big job, but much smaller than fitting a complete new window.

I went exterior and informed my 5 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old to place down the jackhammer (yet in easy terms for a 2d) so i might desire to ask him what he theory yet he's not speaking to me precise now. curiously he's pouting with regard to the actuality that i do no longer furnish medical well-being insurance or some crap.
