Sure you can play in the concert they don't limit what you can do in school if your an atheist just if your a Christian do they do that. Go on and enjoy.

I'm guessing you attend a public school and therefore your concert probably doesn't have any religious content to it. The only thing your really allowed to play is neutral Christmas and "Santa themed" music. and everyone knows that Santa isn't real so I don't see why not. Besides your in the band, there are no lyrics just sounds. Are you more interested in just not having to play that day? I know that concerts can be boring and if that is the case then I wouldn't use being atheist as a scape route. But ultimately the choice is up to you : )

If it's a public school, I imagine the concert will be more along the lines of "Frosty the Snowman" and"Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" rather than "Silent Night", "Come All Ye Faithful", or "Little Town of Bethlehem".. so I think you'll be ideologically safe.

Sure, you could be in your school's christmas concert. Being an atheist has nothing to do with your musical talent.

I see why not. I'm an atheist as well AND in band. I celebrate christmas as much as everyone else.

Pity you are an atheist -- you are going to hate to meet your creator. God has given us ample evidence that the world could not have just happened by accident. It is so precise that it had to be created by intelligent design. It takes a LOT OF BLIND FAITH to be an atheist.

However, if you want to be in a Christmas concert, go ahead. Just do the best you can do -- you owe that to the other people in the concert and the audience.

You don't have to sing the words...are you looking for trouble or a just way to get out of doing it? I can see if you were Jewish and didn't want to do it...but you're atheist, who's going to get mad at you, no one? Would playing Jingle Bells be against your belief system?

You can do whatever you want.

If you feel comfortable participating and you want to enjoy the festivities go on and play.

Sadly, a lot of people forget what Christmas is supposed to be about anyway.

Are you going to get kicked out of band or receive a failing grade if you don't? If either of those were to happen, I advise you to just suck it up. The season doesn't last forever. You can ask to be excused and see what happens.

I believe that if you truly believe in what you are doing, whether it is Christmas music or music for other holidays you should go for it. To learn and achieve is to the benefit of all of us, however you will have to make that final decision.
