Since the 2001 525i was not designed to go very fast, this question depends on your definition of "too much money". This is a car that I own, and there are sites that offer performance chips and exhausts for the car without breaking the bank. The problem though is that the parts are of a lower standard and would jeopardize the longevity of the engine. For surely reliable and tested performance parts, you will have to cough up some SERIOUS dough and give it to the people at Dinan or VF. there's no cheap way on that car. Contrary to the person above, a turbo kit with install will be at least $7000 on that car, maybe more. You might could run nitrous but the engine management might not like that and cut some fuel and then you're out a motor. Supercharger will still run you at least that with install and tune.

wellu spent probly over 2 grand to convert it to like a m5 sow why not spoil ur self and a m5 exhaust and a supersharger its only like 6 or 7 grand more but u want to not spend to much money huh ok but a ecu chip its only like 200 bucks then buy a cold air intake then later some kind of exhaust more in (intake) more air out (exhaust) hp dosent happen just like that tilll you got all that just put the pedal to the metal lol well yea first thing tho ecu or intake

Hahaha that's impossible, every mod cost money. Umm, I believe those SUV have a "top speed" governor in them make them top out around 110. So you could take that off and in theory it would be faster.
