If, by mainstream you mean ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN & MSNBC - probably 5-7 days. I usually watch the BBC television news. I also like watching C-SPAN (I know, my life's a yawn! - but it's interesting!) and for truly in depth stories I like Frontline. Otherwise, I read the local newspaper and get my news from various sources on the web. If it's available, the CBC (Canadian Broadcast) is pretty good. I've just gotten fed up w/American t.v. newscasts - it's so sensationalized, so pop culture centered (what Britney, Paris, BradJolina & TomKate do is NOT news!!!). BBC actually provides in depth coverage of stories that often don't show up on the U.S. news coverage until MONTHS later - the Darfur story was on the BBC news for 18 months before it was paid attention to here in the U.S.

I don't get my news from mainstream media such as my local stations. I listen to talk radio and get my news from Fox news because they are fair and balanced. Like they say We report you decide. Most of the mainstream media is bias. They report what they want you to know and can leave out the facts. If you get your news from a source that reports both sides it allows you to make up your own mind based on your beliefs and you can decide what is true and what is false.
