Well not all Democrats agree with gay marriage and not all republicans share the same beliefs about abortion. Personally I'm not fond of the whole party system. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for democracy but I don't like the stigma that these parties have.

I wish I knew if you were being serious. B/C I hate wasting my time...

What do you think about the Constitution? Do you agree with the doctrine of separation of powers? Do you think that the State should decide the issue of gay marriage? Do you think the Supreme Court should? What about taxes? What about welfare?

The way you answer these questions will give you more insight into your party affiliation than just choosing based on hot-button topics like abortion and gay marriage.

Most of us have mixed opinions, I am a liberal and a gun owner, I figure we can stop the anti gun laws a lot easier if we keep our freedom of expression...I hate abortion but I hate even more the idea that a bunch of old guys in Congress decide if I should have one or not, so that is how I vote - keep it legal, then try to talk people out of it. I am not sure if gay people should be "married" but they sure should have as couples the same legal and insurance rights as heteros.

These questions are only simple when the politicians turn them into slogans to get themselves elected, don't assume that you get to vote without having to think and reach your own decisions!

Political parties should be abolished. There are many people who may say they are Democrat , but agree with some views from Republican parties.
I am registered as a Democrat, but support the Death Penalty and limits on welfare and immigration. I am also Pro-Choice, but belong to the NRA but I support gun control.
So many are mixed mutts when it comes to political parties and views. Before you vote learn about what you will be voting for or against, and just go with your gut.
Dont worry about what political party you belong to.
The only time, you have to vote your Party (Democrat or Republican) is in the Primaries.

You don't have to follow a party line on every issue. You should make up your own mind on each individual issue, just as you have. I also bet you have opinions on more issues than just the two you mentioned. Go down the list and pick the party and/or candidates that represent the majority of your beliefs the best. Don't let friends or even us jerks here on Yahoo! influence you decision. You have already demonstrated you can think for yourself, so you are already ahead of the pack.

You can be whatever you want to be...those are only social issues, it goes beyond just that. But go with the party you agree with the most and even then it does not mean you always have to vote with your party. Or goes as an independent....the only problem with that is that you dont have say in the presidential primaries of the two big parties

Political affiliation does not mean that you have to march in lockstep with your party. If your party leadership supports something that you don't, you lobby to change that policy. You're not supposed to agree with everything that your party does or supports. You are not a 'yes man' to your party. They serve you, not the other way around.

You could be a pro-life democrat or a liberal republican. These single issues shouldn't define what your party affiliation should be.

Vote on the issues/candidates instead of the party.
