how about friends' calls?

No it isn't. Others call us at their convenience. It would be rude to hang up on a friend during a conversation. But as far as I know there is no social requirement to answer a ringing phone or msg. Maybe it's not a convenient time to answer the phone or you just plain don't want to; so don't.

No. If someone calls you (telemarketers and politicians) and rambles on about things you dont want to hear there is nothing wrong with just hanging up on them.
