I don't think there is one movie to take that title. There was the silent picture with Max Schreck called Dracula, the Bela Lugosi in the thirties along with Frankenstein with Boris Karloff. There was a movie whose name I can't remember in the 40's where the ghost smelled like mimosa. I think in the 1950's there was the original "The Haunting" which was terrifying. The sixties had the original Dawn of the Dead, the recent remake is very scary too. Jaws certainly affected an entire generation, I still won't go to the beach. Hitchock made Psycho, the Birds and other pix which were terrifying. The Freddie Krueger series cannot be forgotten. I am tired. Cannot think of any more. Oh what about Godzilla, the Blob, The Mummy (the original)?

thats a hard question, especially for someone who has seen so many scary movies that about nothing scares her. when i first saw the ring, it scared the **** outta me. but i was younger, and i thought a girl really was gonna come out of my tv haha. hmmm... the monsters in silent hill will definitly freak you out at first. high tension is scary just cause its insane and the end makes no sense. mutant movies can be scary... just cause the people look insane. people say the exorcist is the scariest movie of all time, well actually i think some of it is funny. ah, house of 1000 corpses, that is a weird one. that will definitly freak you out a little... just watch it in the dark alone.

Psycho and The Birds. Alfred Hitchcock was the best. I also think The Shining with Jack Nicholson was scary

Before all the special effects kicked in...
1. Halloween
2. Night of the living Dead.
No way you kids today can compare- because that was all we had- so it was as BAD as an be.
The Saw movies these days- are my next favs. No fake suspense music- just IN YOUR FACE twisted crap.

The Night of the living dead movies and the Return of the living dead movies. Those always scared me to death, I think because its something everyone is scared off, seeing a ghost or the dead walking among them.
What's your pick?

Poltergeist...my best friend watched it when she was 5 years old on vacation in Florida and it scared her so bad when they got back her mom had to paint a smiley face on a tree in their backyard because she thought it was going to eat her. (She told me to say that.)
She's not scared anymore...she's a hippie tree hugging freak now.
