Why is it that, when I try to find a female singer for my band, all I meet are space cadet/hippy chicks?

Either you are looking in the wrong places or thats what the women are into where you are from.

where are you looking? i found some of the girl singers in the high school choir. they were the best. groom them the way you want them to be.

dont look for singers look for girls that you like then ask if they can sing. most can
