Yes to some degree. For example if you type in some url (ex. http://www.namehere.com/) you will get a page returned from the web server domain that you requested. However this page is actually something like http://www.namehere.com/index.htm
Other website file names that can be accessed like folders:
default.htm
index.html
index.php
default.html

Technically speaking when you bring up a folder you can see what files are in that folder. However this is up to the web server's system admin's to make the choice if you can access a directory listing of the folder.

Someone can place many files into one folder and disable the listing of the folder contents and then you would not be able to see anything. However when you go to a folder that has one of those "default" file names specified then you will be presented with that file instead of a listing of what is in that folder.

It's an imaginary folder. Think of each of your files as a sheet of paper. You need a place to keep related papers together so that you can find them by topic. So you would store them together in a folder.

no, you actually shouldn't be able to see the folder, but rather the files that are linked in the folders.

a website folder is just a folder. For example if you have a domain www.test.com and then you added a folder blog, then you will have www.test.com/blog. www.test.com is a folder itself that you could store files in it. and /blog is another folder too. It can't be a file, but it allows you to manage your files into it.
