i really don't think it's fair for anyone to say that we hate them more during election years or anything like that because how can you ever really hate something you know nothing about. i'm not mexican and i've never been to mexico but most of the mexicans that do come here are only trying to make a better life for them and their families. how can you deny something like that? Does anybody even remember our history? In the 1800's and before then this country was founded on immigrants Italians, Dutch, Irish....everyone came here from other countries and we should all just deal with it! But to sum it up....this has only come into the forefront in recent years because the Mexican and Latino/a population has gotten noticably larger in recent years and Mexicans are just the US's scapegoats. I am not trying to upset anyone I am just a student who has been well informed of US history and I think some of the minutemen really should take a US history class and realize that everyone is an immigrant and noone is 100% american.

I think some people do. Politicians play on people's fears to get elected. People love immigrants when the economy is good. But when the economy is bad, immigrants become scapegoats whom people blame for everything.

In 1929, when the US fell into the depression, anti-Mexican sentiment became rampant and was encouraged by by the US government and its policies. President Hoover blamed the Mexicans as one of the causes of the Depression, claiming they took jobs away from Americans. A massive campaign was begun to deport and repatriate Mexican immigrants, both legal and illegal, back to Mexico. Many American citizens were illegally deported to Mexico.

The latest round of anti-immigrant sentiment is being furthur fueled by the concern of national security as well as economic issues.

I'm Mexican and i loved the US, but sadly it is true. I have notice that when elections are close a lot of people tend to blame Mexicans for the economy or things that are wrong.

The northern states maybe, but, the southern states and especially along the border pretty much feel the same way all year long.

Yes, because it is a point for politicians to talk about and 50% of the people that applied for visas were hispanic.
