Funny you should ask - I have the DVD set and was just watching the last episode, entitled 'Fall Out'. Essentially, Number 6 is offered a chance to lead 'The Village'. He refuses and tries to destroy as much as he can. At the end, he and the midget butler escape and return to London, where he goes back to his old flat (and hires the butler to work for him). The final scene is of #6 driving his Lotus down the same runway as in the opening scene.

Buy the DVD set!!! Readily available on ebay.

They didn't really show what happened to Rover (the balloon)

I loved that show. I was probably 12 or 13 or so when I saw it on PBS. I thought it was great. They used to review that in Psych college classes.
Who are you, I'm number two. Who is number 1? You are number 6! I still remember that.
The fashions and women's "modern" 60's styling was very cool.
I believe the big bubble was a device they used to catch you when you tried to leave the Island. Remember when #6 McGoohan would get upset and start running away, the big bubble would envelop him, and then they would retrieve him.
I remember the final episode, which was #17, was kind of goofy. I think they didn't know how to end it and I think it just showed everybody dancing around in a crazed fashion. That final episode really ticked and confused people off in England at the time.
The Sopranos are going to find themselves in that same situation if they screw up.

I thought that it ended with Patrick Mc

Goohan discovering that he was #1 all along. don't worry about ithe show being over your head. I think it was over the head of the writers, too.
