You may need to do a Disk Cleanup..
and be sure you have all the boxes checked....
Defrafg your C drive or what ever is your main
harddrive... Make sure you have selected the C
Drive.... This is called a Disk Defragmenter...
Go to : Start... programs.. accessories... system tools..
Do this often...
If that doesnt work then..
Try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good. Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

Fastest and easiest way? Reformat and reinstall win XP if you have it. Or if you have Win 98 disks you just reinstall.

Usually I would suggest you buy extra memory. That speeds up the computer. But you said you do not want to spend money.

Therefore, the above suggestion is the only alternative you have.

First scan for Virues/Spyware. AVG has a good virus scanner so does Avest thier free. Make sure you up date it before you scan. Next get a couple spyware programs and scan with them. I recommend spybot search & destroy, Microsoft's Defender, And Adaware from lavasoft. They are all free aswell. Make sure you update them too. Then I would open go and Update Windows at Microsofts website.

Matter of fact if you got the CD then I would just reformat.
