The mechanic didn't give me a sticker for the windshield. Who invented dipsticks? This one is smooth, a line, an area of x's, a line, smooth and a line. Help please.

You want the oil to be in somewhere in the X's, between the lines, generally. I've always heard 5W30 is the weight best for Nissans, with their tight engine clearances. If you have an owners manual, yep that will tell you, for sure.

Amsoil is, by far, the best oil to use. You can get it from the Lubes 4 U site, and even email them for recommended oil questions. Maybe they will answer this, too. http://lubes4u.com

Take care, and keep 'er smooth and lubed!

PS: No one knows for sure who invented the dipstick, but I think it was Og, the caveman, after he invented the wheel and the hair net. For more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipstick

Without looking at your dipstick and reading the manual I could not answer with certainty. But, most likely the line furthest from the tip just above the last set of hash marks is the full mark.

Also, if you look at the oil fill cap, most modern cars have the type of oil required printed on the cap. Like 15w 30 or 10w 20. The best thing to do is read the owners manual. Oil that has the ASE seal on the container has met the required standards.

If it's time to do an oil change you would be best served to take it to a reputable shop or lube service.

Most folks might argue but to any engine, as long as you buy a quality oil, change it at intervals that are called for by the manufacturer and use a quality filter....Well there in't anything to worry about. The factory overkills the frequency because it does help engine longevity.

I change my own oil, but it is a pain and costs more than a shop. I wouldn't have it any other way though, I am a certified Aircraft Mechanic!

Do you a have the owner's manual? It should tell you what type of oil to use, as well as how to read the dipstick. If you don't have a manual, you can get one from a Nissan dealer.
