Some colleges need them but not all. Either way, you should build relationships with your teachers so you can get good recommendations. It doesn't hurt to get as many as possible.

I'm a junior too, and I learned that you NEED teacher recommendations in the form of Letters of Recommendations. You'll need about 3 of those, but get a variety (one from a teacher, one from a job manager, and one from a club/activity). Towards the end of your Junior year, ask the people to write a letter of recommendation for you. Over the summer they can write it, and then you'll have it the beginning of your senior year.

Just to let you know, letters of recommendation aren't as important as many other factors. You need to keep a high GPA, do well on the SATs and ACTs, do BOTH in school and out of school activities, do community service, and do things that make you shine. If you don't have anything that makes you shine (or makes you an original individual), then you WON'T make it into a good college.

It's a lot of work and it's very stressful, so good luck!

I'm a teacher.
You're probably worrying too much about this. Teacher recommendations (unfortunately, in my opinion) aren't a very big part of the process, usually. Getting a great ACT or SAT score is a much bigger deal. Most likely you won't need a teacher recommendation at all. In my 12-year career, I've probably only written about 8 recommendations, and those were for.....
college scholarships, not college entrance, except......
entrance applications into military academies.

Other than that, you're just not going to have to deal with it.

You have hit on a key point -- it is, indeed, high time you start participating in class. You needn't ask for recommendations until your senior year, but now is the time to build your reputation. ;-)
Just a suggestion --don't overlook the extra-curricular activities. Given two students with B+ averages, college recruiters are going to look at the one who served on student council, was active on the school newspaper, played in the band, sang in the choir, mentored students in jr. grades or anything else that showed them to be active and contributing members of the school community.

This is good! That ur thinking ahead. Well first of all im Senior and im kind of doing the same thing ur doing hehe. But ur at an early start which is even better. You need one from your counselor that is required so go to her and ask her to write you one and tell her your major and colleges ur looking at as well. And then for the other 2 (because u need 3 in total) you can just ask 2 other teachers who know you well enough to right you one. And im not sure about if its too early to ask them to write u one you have to talk to ur counselor ASAP.

Most public universities don't give a rat's @ss about recommendations...only SAT or ACT scores and whether you can pay.... The recommendation problem is with private colleges or religious schools. But email the particular school you're interested in to find out their policy.

Think! What do you really want to study in college?

....what teachers made an impression since Kindergarten through now? ....why were you impressed...was it their field of study...or how they treated you.....did any make you shy....or think if you just get by without participating that it's ok...

and Now it would be a great idea to go after what's inside of you.......Keep thinking and Dream, No excuses, No Limits!

Don't forget to ask God to Bless Your Dreams...and if you don't feel close to God, who moved?

Usually the colleges you apply to will tell you how many letters of rec. you need and from what kind of people they need to come from. Sometimes a boss, sometimes a family member, sometimes a friend that has known you longer than 5 years. It just varies from college to college and you won't know til they tell you as part of their application process.
