No. The UN resolution that approved the action went only so far as to drive the Iraqis out of Kuwait. Once that was done, the UN action was completed and this is why Bush Sr announced "The war is over". The US generals wanted to go all the way to Baghdad, however.

No, that was President Clinton. He ordered attack on 12/16/98
trying to distract the country from his impeachment trials.
On Oct 3, 1999 he signed the Iraq Liberation Act which said
"The United States wants Iraq to rejoin the family of nations as a freedom loving & law abiding member".
That sounds like cut & run to me - it has been a while since Iraq
was a member of anything "freedom loving & law abiding".

You better believe he cut and ran because he knew that a complete invasion of Iraq would be a total disater mainly due to the high probability of a civil war/gureilla war. General Swartzkoff (the guy who won the Gulf War) agreed with Bush Sr and the General thought the 2nd Iraq war was a big mistake Before the invasion happened.

The mandate he had from the UN was to remove Saddam from Kuwait. He built a coalition, that included Arab countries, based on that mandate. If he had gone into Baghdad he would have violated the legal justification he had for going to war and the coalition more than likely would have fallen apart.

Actually, that is a good question. No, because we basically hammered a path to Baghdad and Iraq surrendered and left Kuwait, which was our stated goal. However, many wanted us to march into Baghdad and come out with Saddams head on a stick.

Check your UN History. It was a UN Operation, and when Kuwait was Liberated, and Iraq's Army driven out, the UN Mandate was accomplished.

Bush Sr was criticised for not pressing on and overthrowing Hussein, but his administration wanted an internal coup to overthrow Hussein rather than committing more US troops.
