There are several definitions to tagging:
Tagging is 'passing the control to another team member in sport".
Electronic tagging is when a device is placed on an object for the purpose of tracking, commonly used in survelliance. Think of tagging wolves before they're reintroduced into the wild.
In security, 'tagging' is when one person swipes their badge to gain access to an area and a second person follows so close, the second person is able to gain access off the first person's 'swipe'.
So the answer really depends on the context in which you're using 'tagging'.

Do you mean those tags that they put on furniture that says "Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law"?
Because those are real important so that people can tell what chemicals were used in the manufacture of the fabrics that are in the furniture.

Where I live, tagging means registering and getting a license plate for your vehicle...and it's important if you don't want to go to jail.
We call license plates tags down south.

Depends on what you're tagging. If it's merchadise, it could be for warnings. If it's cadavers, it is to identify the body. If it's wrestling, it's to give your partner a chance to rest while you take care of business in the ring.
