when i was in high school in the 70's,we did folk dancing in p.e.class. the miserlou was one of the dances. our teacher told us it was greek ,though, how it originated ? good question.

This is what I found online about the Greek Miserlou. This seems to be info about the choreographed dance not the traditional dance that people do in the country.

The Greek miserlou or misirlou, like any other folk dance, represents the Greek people and their traditions and heritage. It's almost impossible to trace the origin of a folk dance because it pretty much appeared and evolved over time. These dances have been around in these countries for thousands of years. Of course that they changed over the years but they are simply representing the people of the country. I am a folk dancer and I learned lots of kinds of dances but none of them had a specific time when they were created, except for the Israeli dances.
